In multiple sclerosis, it is assumed that immune cells attack the myelin sheath of nerve cells in the central nervous system as if it is the enemy. Pam discusses the discovery of Lyme bacteria in the myelin sheath of nerve cells and how this could explain why there is injury to myelin and nerve cells as the immune cells are actually trying to defend the body.
