In 2010, the BBC aired a documentary titled, The Dark Side of Chocolate, which revealed how child slavery was being used in the harvesting of cocoa beans- beans that were used to produce many top name brand chocolate bars and treats on our supermarket shelves.
This devastating fact remains true today and should not be forgotten when we are contemplating buying that tasty chocolate bar or box of chocolate chip cookies on our way to the checkout counter.
The film is a must see for those who want to ensure the health, safety, welfare and happiness of our global children and their families.
If you ever wanted to give up chocolate for health reasons, this film will make you want to do so for an even greater cause. And, if after the fact, you still must have it, at least opt for the fair trade variety. Your conscience will thank you for it.
We as consumers have the power to change the world- if we choose to be actively conscious of the food choices that we make and their possible effects on others.
Please share this with your family and friends.
