Pam Bartha answers your questions about parasites and how to recover from them. In the following video, she also shares amazing successes from Wellness Champions who are recovering from parasites that cause chronic disease.
What is a parasite?
A parasite is any microbe that lives in our body and causes us harm. Parasites rob nutrients from the food we eat, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies. They also produce toxins and cause inflammation. They make us sick. They need us to survive. Common parasites include big and small worms, single celled protists, fungi and bacteria.
Common parasites largely overlooked by our medical standard of care:
- Roundworms, tapeworms and flukes (flat worms)
- Protists like giardia, toxoplasmosis, malaria and Babesia
- Borrelia, Bartonella, E. coli, Clostridia species and Chlamydia pneumoniae bacteria
- Candida and Aspergillus fungi
Integrative practitioners have long understood that chronic yeast and mold fungal infections are present in their sick patients. More recently, the vector born infections that cause Lyme disease have gained attention. Yet, most practitioners lack the experience and tests to identify and treat parasites successfully. They may recommend food sensitivity or allergy tests, hormone tests, chelation for heavy metals, genetic testing and many supplements while missing the root cause of their patient’s woes. Even after costly testing, therapies and supplements, their patients continue to return to their clinic month after month, still sick because the parasitic infections were not addressed or treated effectively.
Is there a parasite connection to multiple sclerosis?
There’s a huge parasite connection with multiple sclerosis. MS is an infectious disease. Neurocysticercosis (tapeworm larval cysts), filarial roundworms, Lyme disease, fungal infections are just some of the most common parasites found in the central nervous system of MS patients. These parasites cause neurological symptoms in MS and other neurological diseases. Treating these parasites effectively allows us to recover from MS and other diseases. It empowers people to play an active role in their healthcare, so they can reach their health goals as they treat the root cause of disease in the most cost-effective way.
My doctor said that I could only be infected with parasites by travelling to other countries. Is that true? How do we get parasites?
Parasites live in our water, animals, soil and in children’s sandboxes. We can get parasites from our pets. They are also found on our produce and in bathroom facilities. They can be spread from person to person when not washing hands properly, at home or when eating in restaurants. A common way to get parasites is by swimming. Some parasites thrive in water and chlorine does not effectively kill them all. One can get parasites by accidentally swallowing water from a public pool, hot tub, lake or river.
What symptoms do parasites cause?
Parasites can cause any symptom in the body. The following are common symptoms of parasites:
- Chronic fatigue
- Allergies, asthma
- Poor digestion – cravings, gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, incontinence
- Bladder issues – urgency, frequent urinary tract infections
- Depression, anxiety, mood swings
- Brain fog, poor memory
- Stiffness and spasticity
- Poor balance
- Poor vision, optic neuritis, blindness
- Loss of mobility – writing, walking
- Impaired speech
- Weakness and loss of mobility in legs and arms
- Drop foot
- Tremors
- Pain
Is there a good way to test for parasites?
Current parasite tests are not sensitive or accurate. Expert parasitologists report that the best parasite tests will only identify about 10% of the parasites that people are infected with.
Energy testing helps determine the best treatments for the types of parasites person is infected with. Autonomic Response Testing (ART), Acupuncture Meridian Assessment (AMA), Applied Kinesiology, Vega or EAV testing are common types of energy testing. It is important that the practitioner is skilled at energy testing and has a good reputation.
Is there a specific diet that you should follow if you have parasites?
The Live Disease Free diet is the best diet to follow before and while treating parasites. Parasites thrive on carbohydrates and by decreasing the carbs low enough, the parasites become less active, inflammation decreases and symptoms improve. By changing our diet and supporting our body before treating parasites, the treatments will be more effective and more easily tolerated. CLICK HERE to review the Live Disease Free Guidelines.
Are there any supplements or vitamins that you would recommend?
We do not recommend taking many supplements. A plant-sourced multivitamin and mineral, calcium and vitamin D3 supplements are helpful to take. High doses of synthetic vitamins can actually feed the infections and make symptoms worse. Also, many supplements may be helpful in theory, but we have found that they really don’t make a significant difference in one’s health. It is best to focus on getting ready to treat and then treating the parasites as soon as possible.
Can I successfully treat parasites with herbs alone?
If a person is healthy with only minor symptoms of parasites, herbal parasite treatments can be helpful. They are not strong enough on their own to treat large worms or parasites that have infected the blood, organs and the central nervous system. Herbs alone are not effective enough to recover from parasitic infestations that cause chronic disease. Treating a parasitic infestation requires supporting the body first and then using a layering of treatments which include herbs, parasite drugs and oxygen therapies while following a holistic approach. The Live Disease Plan to recover from parasites.
What are some common parasite drugs?
It is important to work with a practitioner who has significant experience in identifying and treating parasites and has had a lot of success helping their patients recover from parasitic infestations that cause chronic disease. Recovery requires using the right drug at an effective dose for the right length of time. Common parasite drugs include albendazole, mebendazole, fenbendazole, ivermectin, nitazoxanide, tinidazole, parental pamoate, praziquantel, niclosamide and levamisole.
I have I floaters. Could they be parasites?
Fungi, Borrelia, worms and other parasites can cause floaters and as they are treated effectively, the floaters dissipate.
Would this approach help with my bladder / bowel incontinence?
Bladder urgency and bowel incontinence are caused by parasites. The Live Disease Free diet is the first step to get symptom relief from these conditions. But to recover, the parasites must also be treated effectively. Anyone suffering from inflammatory bowel disease or chronic diarrhea should avoid vegetables that do not agree with them and they should cook their veggies (steam, sauté, stir fry and oven roast) until their symptoms resolve and they can tolerate raw vegetables again. By following this diet properly, symptom improvements can begin in as little as 1 to 2 weeks.

My wife has body tremors, tingling in her legs and feet, memory and mood issues, sugar addition, poor eyesight in one eye, and she is on 5 different medicines. Do you think this approach will help her?
Parasites cause tremors, tingling, memory and mood issues, sugar addictions, poor vision and many other symptoms. As they are treated effectively, these symptoms diminish and people are able to come off of their medications while working with their pharmacist and / or doctor.
What can we do for SIBO?
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) occurs when people have an increase in the amount of bacteria in their small intestine, especially bacteria that are not normally found there. It’s important to consider that larger worms in the small intestine can infect us with their parasites, which would include bacteria. They also create a toxic environment as they deposit their waste in us. Focusing only on treating bacteria usually does not provide long-lasting results. The larger worms must also be treated.
Is it OK to drink coffee?
It is important to avoid all caffeine during the recovery phase. Even small amounts of caffeine in decaffeinated coffee can stimulate parasites.
Can you get parasites from sushi?
All raw fish can have parasites. Sushi parasites have increased 283-fold in past 40 years globally.[i] Freezing raw fish should reduce the risk of getting parasites from raw fish.
The fish should be frozen to a temperature of -31°F (-35°C) or below until solid or for 15 hours and storing at an ambient temperature of -4°F (-20°C) or below for 24 hours if fish is intended for raw consumption.
Do you believe that the immune system is attacking the body in autoimmune disease?
All diseases are inflammatory conditions. Inflammation is the body’s response to infection. Science has documented at least 17 different ways that parasites cause inflammation and immune dysfunction in the body. There are thousands of different parasites that can infect the human body, some of which infect our cells. The immune cells will attack and destroy infected sick cells in order to defend the body. As parasites are treated effectively, inflammation subsides and health is restored. An ever-growing body of research confirms that the immune system is not attacking the body for no reason . Infection is always involved.
