If you are diabetic, eating carbohydrates (especially processed ones) is feeding your disease.
Living with diabetes is incredibly difficult and it is made even harder still by the current American Diabetes Association dietary guidelines.
These guidelines create a vicious cycle: they allow for carbohydrate intake, which increases blood sugar in diabetics, forcing them to take meds to improve insulin levels, which then forces them to eat more carbohydrates to prevent their blood sugar from dropping too low because of the medications, which again increases their blood sugar…and so on.
Dr. Sarah Hallberg, Medical Director of the Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program at IU Health Arnett, cuts through this vicious cycle with a very clear and simple message: “diabetes is a state of carbohydrate toxicity” in a world where our bodies don’t actually need carbs to be healthy. If you axe the carbs, you can reverse diabetes.
She highly recommends that her clients avoid grains, potatoes and sugar- thereby drastically reducing their intake of carbs. Instead, she insists, they need to eat more good fats: essential nutrients that do not affect blood sugar levels. And she has seen incredible results in her clients: complete reversals of type 2 diabetes!
