Two common diabetes medications have been shown to decrease lesions and support immune modulation in multiple sclerosis patients. These drugs decrease blood sugar levels and sugar is the preferred source of energy for parasites. This research is yet more evidence that MS is caused by parasites.
An insightful study uncovered an important clue—and it supports what we’ve been seeing for years: MS is a parasitic infestation, and by reducing the parasites’ favorite source of energy, they become less active and inflammation decreases. This is the first step to recovery.
Knowing the cause allows us to recover—not only from MS but also from other diseases.
The Study: Immunologic Effects of Metformin and Pioglitazone Treatment on Metabolic Syndrome and Multiple Sclerosis
This research shows that two common diabetes drugs—metformin and pioglitazone—can significantly reduce MS disease activity. But the real discovery may not be about the drugs themselves. Instead, it’s about why they work: they lower blood sugar and, in doing so, may also suppress the parasites that fuel MS.
What the Study Found
In this study, 50 obese MS patients who also had metabolic syndrome (MetS) were followed for over two years. They were divided into three groups:
- 20 took metformin
- 10 took pioglitazone
- 20 received no added treatment.
Researchers tracked brain MRI scans, immune function, and hormone levels. What they found was striking:
✅ Reduced Brain Lesions
Both metformin and pioglitazone users showed a dramatic decrease in new and active brain lesions:
- Metformin group: T2 lesions dropped from 2.5 to 0.5
- Pioglitazone group: T2 lesions dropped from 2.3 to 0.6
- Gadolinium-enhancing lesions also dropped nearly to zero.
✅ Better Immune Balance
Both treatments lowered harmful immune responses and increased beneficial ones:
- Leptin (a pro-inflammatory hormone) decreased
- Adiponectin (an anti-inflammatory hormone) increased
- Inflammatory T-cells (IL-17, IFN-γ, IL-6, TNF) dropped
- Regulatory T-cells (which calm autoimmunity) increased
These are major changes—many of these patients were already on disease-modifying drugs, yet still had active MS before starting metformin or pioglitazone.
What’s Really Behind These Results?
While both drugs have some known anti-inflammatory properties, they work through different biological pathways—yet both produced nearly identical improvements in MS.
This strongly suggests that the real benefit isn’t from the drugs’ individual effects. Instead, it’s likely from what they have in common:
👉 They both lower blood sugar and insulin levels.
Lower Sugar = Less Parasite Activity
Why does that matter? Because parasites—including worms, protozoa, fungi, and other microbes—thrive on sugar and simple carbohydrates. They use glucose as fuel to grow, reproduce, and release toxins.
When blood sugar drops:
- Parasites become less active
- They release fewer toxins
- The immune system is less active
- Inflammation decreases
- Symptoms improve.
This explains why patients in the study had fewer lesions and more balanced immune function—because the parasites driving MS were weakened.
But What About the Risks of These Drugs?
Metformin and pioglitazone may help lower blood sugar, but they’re not without risks—especially in older adults or those with kidney issues.
⚠️ Known Adverse Effects of Metformin
- Nausea, bloating, gas, and diarrhea
- Common signs of lactic acidosis (a serious drop in blood pH)
- Vitamin B12 deficiency, which can cause nerve damage and memory loss
- Linked to cognitive decline and Parkinson’s disease with long-term use in people over 65.
For someone already dealing with neurological symptoms, these side effects are serious concerns.
A Safer, More Effective Way: The Live Disease Free Diet
The Live Disease Free Diet is a low-carb, nutritious, anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic eating plan that naturally lowers blood sugar—without medication and without side effects.
By removing sugar and processed carbs:
- Parasites have less food
- Inflammation decreases
- The immune system can start to recover
- MS symptoms often improve—even before parasite treatment begins.
Many Wellness Champions report feeling significantly better just from following the Live Disease Free eating plan. This research helps explain why: changing the terrain—greatly reducing food to the parasites—reduces disease activity.
Student Success
“I’m out of the bed which is amazing. I have been bedridden for years. My mental clarity has improved a lot which is the most amazing improvement to me. I can read again. I thought I was losing my memory. No more anxiety attacks at all which always led to crying. They are gone. I no longer get up at night to urinate. I can’t remember the last time this hadn’t happened.
I am already off one medication.”
Final Thoughts
This study provides powerful evidence that MS may not be just an autoimmune condition, but rather a chronic parasitic infestation made worse by sugar.
Rather than relying on medications with serious risks, we can use the Live Disease Free diet as the first step to recovery—to create an internal environment where parasites no longer thrive, and the immune system is supported. For recovery, the ultimate goal is to also treat the parasites that cause MS and other diseases.
If you’re ready to go beyond managing symptoms—and instead treat the root cause—the Live Disease Free plan offers a safe, holistic and proven path to recovery.
There are real solutions to recover from parasites today!
To restore health, we must focus on treating the cause of inflammation, which are parasites. First, identify the enemy (parasites), then support the body and treat the parasites while following a holistic approach. When parasitic infections are treated effectively, we can overcome inflammation or disease.
