How Biotoxins Can Trigger Disease
Parasites not only cause inflammation as our immune system defends our body, but the biotoxins they produce can also have a major impact on our metabolism – how our body runs or operates. Chronic inflammation and abnormal metabolism caused by parasites and their toxins can exist in our bodies for years and can lead to an ever-growing list of symptoms, disease, disability and even early death.
So, it’s not just the action of our immune system attacking the parasites that causes all of our symptoms, but also the impact of the biotoxins they produce that can change the way our body functions, which can lead to a host of additional symptoms.
Fungi and mycotoxins
Over 30 years ago Dr. Crook, Dr. Truss, Dr. Luc De Schepper, and Dr. Rona believed that Candida and other fungi were the main parasites that caused MS and other diseases because chronic fungal infections were present in their patients who suffered from MS and other diseases, and because it was known that fungal toxins are some of the most poisonous substances in the world. With advances in science, it is now becoming clear that many other types of parasites like bacteria, single-celled parasites or protists and worms also produce biotoxins that trigger disease. If you would like to review research on the types of parasites linked with MS, visit Evidence that MS is an Infectious Disease.
Dysbiosis or a disruption in the microbes that live in the body is linked with all chronic disease including diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular, inflammatory bowel disease, MS and all other autoimmune diseases. The production of parasite metabolites and biotoxins have been shown to significantly impact metabolism by causing leaky gut and impacting immune function, and the presence of certain biotoxins can be used to predict the risk of disease.[i] One study found high levels of three bacterial biotoxins in the spinal fluid and plasma of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients, but not in healthy people and chronic exposure of these toxins to nerve cells impaired their firing rate.[ii]
CIRS – Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome
Dr. Shoemaker has gained valuable insights into how biotoxins from mold, the vector born infections that cause Lyme disease and other parasites cause a chronic inflammatory state in the body which he calls Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome or CIRS. Research shows that various parasites and their biotoxins cause CIRS including different molds like Stachybotrys, Penicillium and Aspergillus. Also, bacteria such as Actinomyces, mycobacteria, cyanobacteria, borrelia and their biotoxins can also cause chronic inflammation, impaired metabolism and a variety of symptoms. The study of parasite biotoxins is a new scientific frontier.
How illness is triggered.
Most people who suffer from diseases like MS have overused antibiotics in the past, often as children. Taking antibiotics for tonsillitis, bronchitis, bladder or ear infections, surgeries, dental infections and / or acne, devastates our natural defence, our health promoting microbes that keep parasites in check. When health promoting microbes are diminished in numbers, they can no longer defend us against parasites and we become vulnerable to whatever parasites we are exposed to in our environment.
Over the years, parasites become more populated in our body and move to new tissues and organs. Poor lifestyle habits, high stress, lack of sleep and activity, eating a lot of process carbs and a lack of nutrition, the use of hormones and other medications, and environmental toxins such as biotoxins from parasites, radiation and heavy metals all further weaken our immune function which allows the parasites to flourish and produce more biotoxins.
Chronic mold exposure
For years, Dr. Shoemaker, Dr. Klinghardt and others have warned how chronic mould exposure from our home or workplace can lead to disease. Molds but also bacteria such as actinomyces and mycobacteria from water damaged buildings produce biotoxins that promote inflammation and impair metabolism. If you suspect water damage in your home or work place, it’s very important to have this tested and remediated properly. Dr. Shoemaker recommends the ERMI and HERTSMI-2 tests if you suspect mold in your home or work environment. He also recommends testing for actinomycetes.[iii]
MS and higher levels of lactic acid
Dr. Shoemaker shares research about how the poisons produced by certain parasites can disrupt the production of specific proteins that are important for our mitochondria to produce energy. With mitochondrial dysfunction, less energy is produced which can result in fatigue. The impaired mitochondrial function can also cause an increased production of lactic acid in the cell which will spill into blood vessels and can lead to metabolic acidosis.
It is interesting that research shows that lactic acid is elevated in the blood of multiple sclerosis patients. One study found lactic acid was 2.8 times higher in the blood of MS patient when compared to healthy people and the greater the amount of lactic acid found in the blood of the MS patients, the greater the disability.[iv]
High levels of lactic acid in the blood can cause:[v]
- exhaustion or extreme fatigue
- muscle cramps or pain
- body weakness
- overall feelings of physical discomfort
- abdominal pain or, diarrhea
- decrease in appetite
- headache
- fast heart rate
Leukodystrophy is just one of the neurological diseases that are often misdiagnosed with MS. Like MS, leukodystrophy causes white matter lesions.
With leukodystrophy, there is a buildup of lactic acid in the central nervous system. These patients have very similar symptoms to those in MS patients such as balance and mobility problems, stiffness, spasticity, bladder issues, hearing, speech and vision problems, such as blindness. [vi]
Dr Shoemaker also shares research about how biotoxins can also impact blood pressure and suppress our immune modulating cells.
Tests for Inflammation and parasites
Standard tests for inflammation and parasites are poor and most often, in people who suffer with inflammation and parasitic infestations, tests come back with “normal” results.
Currently, many integrative practitioners are using energy testing to determine the most effective treatments for the parasites their patient are dealing with and which binders are most helpful for the biotoxins.
How to Recover
For recovery from chronic disease and chronic inflammation, it is not enough to treat the parasites. Most of us have suffered with these infections, inflammation and impaired metabolism for years. If we want to have the highest level of health, we must use a holistic approach that supports immune modulation, optimal metabolism and physiology, and immune function while treating various parasites.
This can be a daunting and expensive process if you don’t know what you need to recover and live a healthy life. I believe that learning how to play an active role in reclaiming your health is one of the most important skills you can and must have. It will help you to save tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars over your lifetime. But most importantly, learning how to take charge of your health is really the best way to reach your health goals to get your health and your life back, and be happy again.
There are Real Solutions for MS Today!
To restore health, we must focus on treating the cause of inflammation which are parasites. First, identify the enemy (parasites), then support the body and treat the parasites while following a holistic approach. When parasitic infections are treated effectively, we can overcome inflammation or disease.
