Dangerous Levels of Arsenic Found in Rice

Back in 2012, Consumer Reports first shocked the public by telling us that, according to their research, many varieties of rice and common processed foods made from rice (even those labelled “organic”) have unsafe levels of organic and inorganic arsenic (a carcinogen). They also stressed that children are especially at risk when eating this grain.

Who would have thought that organic brown rice could be dangerous to your health and to the health of your family?! So many people switch to this grain for health reasons… how surprising to learn that it so could actually damage your health!

Since the release of this information, Consumer Reports looked at findings by the Food and Drug Administration and concluded that the levels of inorganic arsenic found in rice are even higher than they had originally thought.

Consumer Reports released the following short video discussing their findings- stressing the importance of limiting yours and especially your children’s rice intakes. Please also check out the report links at the bottom of this page for more details.

The bottom line: It is always best to vary your grain intake (if your health status can handle grains at all), focusing on whole, organic, gluten-free varieties that have the lowest possible toxic loads.
