Case Studies: Parasites cause inflammation and neurological symptoms

There are many different types of parasites that can cause neurological symptoms associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as MS, ALS and Parkinson’s. In the Live Disease Free Academy, I teach that infections are the biggest root cause of all chronic disease, and by treating infections, the progression of disease stops and a lot of recovery is possible.

I would like to share a few case studies from the scientific literature supporting this approach, as the research in this field is exploding.

I am passionate about sharing this research with you, because 29 years ago I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Understanding that infections are the cause of MS, and learning how to treat these infections have allowed me to live a full, active life, free of MS.

If you or someone you know is suffering with a neurodegenerative disease, this is such exciting research to share. Parasites have been long overlooked in research, and by treating parasites effectively, students are able to recover quicker.

Case Studies:

1. (2011) Toxocara canis myelitis: clinical features, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, and treatment outcome in 17 patients.

In this study, 17 patients showed evidence of spinal cord disease – including sensory, motor and autonomic dysfunction mostly in their lower extremities.

Patients showed either slowly progressive or remitting-relapsing with mild to moderate disability. The patients underwent extensive blood and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) testing as well as an MRI of the spinal cord and brain. All patients tested positive for Toxocara canis (dog roundworm) antibodies in their blood and spinal fluid.

Treatment with albendazole, with or without steroids, resulted in significant neurologic improvement and normalization of the MRI in all patients.

The study concluded that parasitic worm treatment was associated with a good outcome.

2. (2017) Treatment-resistant neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders associated with Toxocara canis infection: A case report.

A 53-year-old woman suffered with inflammation in the spinal cord located in the chest area. She also had a previous episode of optic neuritis. The Western blot test showed Toxocara canis (dog roundworm) antibodies in her blood. As a result, she received an oral treatment of albendazole which alleviated her symptoms.

These researchers recommend a thorough investigation to detect pathogens including parasites in the treatment of inflammatory disorders of the central nervous system.

3. (2016) Microfilariae in a bone marrow aspirate

Microfilaria (small nematode worms) have been detected when taking a sample of fluid or tissue from a cyst or solid mass. They have also been detected in other bodily fluids including bronchial washings, which are used to find infections, cancer or changes in cells that could lead to cancer in the lungs.

Small human parasitic roundworms were present in the bone marrow of a 65-year old female who suffered with back pain – she had a leucoerythroblastic blood picture in the peripheral smear and metastatic deposits in the bone marrow aspirate.

4. (2017) Human Toxocariasis: Secondary Data Analysis

Toxocariasis is a parasite infection caused by roundworms. The immature form of this roundworm can move deep into the body organs and central nervous system. Although there are many types of Toxocara, only T. canis (dog roundworm) and T. cati (cat roundworm) are the biggest concern in public health.

This study reviewed 217 articles about human toxocariasis.

They found that human toxocariasis occurs in many countries but the true frequency of this disease is still unknown worldwide, because this disease has not been studied in all countries. Tests to diagnose are very limited, not easy to access, and are not always accurate.

In the video below, I break down these case studies and discuss why these findings are relevant to anyone who suffers with neurological symptoms, including neurological diseases. Please share with anyone you know who will benefit from this exciting research!
